10/2 Thursday 3:30, @ Meridian....14-16 Loss.
This was a good game. Meeker lost the opening kickoff on an onside kick and the defense stopped Meridian's first drive. A few plays later and the offense was at the 1 foot line, 2 plays later Meeker scored its first TD of the year. The 2 point kick attempt failed, putting the score to 6-0.
Meridian took the kick and through some long gains on runs around the outside scored a TD and kicked the extra points, score 6-8.
Meeker scored another TD and kicked their first extra points before the half ended, score 14-8. Defense strengths= good stops of Meridian's runs inside and good pass coverage. Weakness=inconsistent control of outside runs.
The second half started with Meeker kicking off. Meridian sometime in the third scored a TD and made the extra point, score 14-16.
Meeker couldn't get much offense in the second half, and both teams traded a couple possesions. In the 4th quarter, Meridian fumbled and Meeker recovered on about the Meridian 35, but didn't get any closer.
Offense strengths=a few good pass plays, a couple outside runs and good right side line blocking. Weakness=looked slow to execute plays, long counts added to that feeling. Linebacker blitzes not picked up consistently and those tall guys got at least 5 sacks of Meeker QB.
Anyhow, there were very few Meeker penalties, only one I remember. This was their best effort yet against a team of 40 kids to Meeker's 25.
